trac phone charges outstanding rates and sometimes no service signal when traveling...i'm with altell and they gave me a wonderful plan i can call up to 10 additional people who are not altell customers for free all the time and you can call eachother for no additional cost anytime day or night and with altell you always get a great signal even when traveling up and down in the mountains..where as with some providers you lose signal even when talking and that can be a pain.. i would strongly recomend altell for a cell phone as the bill is always the same every month and not constantly changeing all the time like a lot of the other cell phone providers do..good luck in your search and i hope i was of help to you in this..

If you ever find that, please tell me. That would basically mean all you're paying is outbound calls and the unlimited texts? Impossible!

why don't you try koodoo? go on the various cell phone websites and see the student deals like on telus etc. but I seriously suggest using prepaid phone bc your bill could end up being 300 bucks a month if you are not strict and don't have a good plan.

Ha, it's Vonage, not Vontage. Here is an interesting web page about that:

http://www.vonage-faq.com/vontage.html

Anyway, how will Vonage cancel your Internet? Note that Vonage does not provide Internet service, but VoIP only.
Check Vonage faq:

http://www.vonage-faq.com/vonage-faq.html

I thought iPhone is exclusive to AT&T, two year contract. That's per Apple:

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?aid=AIC-WWW-NAUS-K2-BUYNOW-IPHONE-INDEX#faqs

Unless you can get another provider "hack" your iPhone (I have no idea if that's possible), your minimum is:

- $39.99 voice plan (monthly)
- $15 data (monthly)
- 20 cents per text message or plans ranging from $5 to $20 per month

So if you have no choice but to go with AT&T wireless, you may take a look into their bundles or even U-verse (if you live in the area where this service is available). Otherwise you're with AT&T wireless, and another Internet service provider of your choice.

Here is more about AT&T Internet and TV (this is a big one that many people go for these days) services:

http://www.att-services.net/att-u-verse.html

Your best choice may be all AT&T, or Vonage and AT&T, or something else, Vonage, and AT&T.
In regards of Vonage, especially if you're calling international destinations, and want to use your cell phone while paying Vonage rates, I don't think any other company can beat them:

http://www.vonage-faq.com/vonage-international.html

If you don't care about international calling, and if you don't use your home phone much, you may even be good with Vonage Lite:

http://www.vonage-faq.com/vonage-plans/vonage-lite.html

A lot to consider and weigh on your scale. ;)

BTW, AT&T has something called DSL Direct. No AT&T phone line is required:

http://www.att-services.net/att-dsl-direct.html

But since it's DSL, I guess you would need a phone line from other carrier, not sure.

You need a factory unlocked quadband phone that you can use with prepaid sim cards from Spain and the various countries you will be visiting. Alternatively, you buy a cheap prepaid phone in Spain and use it with local prepaid sim cards.

You do not use US phone service outside the US unless you're a billionaire.

don't forget that the data is not available everywhere, and data will tend to drop out more than voice will, so you may find that you 'drop' your calls a lot.
the other things to consider is latency, so it might be like old-fashioned phone calls overseas.
I would use the voice plan, and try out google voice and see what you think of it. You can change your verion plan later on.
